My son wants to become an armed security guard, what should I tell him? That
is a personal question that you and your son must discuss together. I can not answer that for you, If he is mature enough,
over the age of 21 or 18 if former military, can pass a background check and completes the firearm safety course, has
a firearm permit and wants to take the 47 hour Armed guard course, We can give it to him.
Remember what
Uncle Ben said to Peter Parker aka Spiderman "With great power comes great responsibility!"

I am a retired police officer, do I have to take your courses? Great question,
I get this one often. The answer is according to NYS if you have retired less than 10 years ago you do not have to. You may
qualify for a training waiver. For more information on how to obtain the waiver you may go to the resources link
on my site.
However many security guard companies still want their guards to take the 8hr and 16hr regardless
of their background for liability reasons. My suggestion is for everyone to take the courses also, you may learn something
new.

In your opinion why are most people rejected from working as a security guard? In my past experience I have noticed many reasons why people get rejected by employers: - Applicant must be able
to legally work in the United States.
- Must be above the age of 18.
- They could not have been convicted of
a felony or have many misdemeanors unless they are in possession of a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate
of good conduct and then it is still up to the state if they are willing to issue the individual a license.
- Must be
able to pass a drug examination.
- Must have the soft skills necessary to work in a job culture; positive attitude,
conservative appearance, tardiness, able to assimulate with people and must be as flexable as possible regarding their
schedule.
